Les Tortues Ninja est un dessin-animé qui se déroule à New York. Le premier épisode a été diffusé le 8 février 2003, et le dernier le 21 novembre 2009, le samedi matin sur la Fox, et produit par 4Kids Entertainment et Mirage Studios. Il y a un total de 155 épisodes pour ces sept saisons. 104 pour les quatre premières, douze pour la cinquième, vingt-six pour Fast Forward et treize pour Back to the Sewers. En France, seules les quatre premières saisons ont été diffusées, dont les trois premières sur TF1. La Saison 5 est surnommée par les fans « the Lost Season » car la plupart de ses épisodes n’ont été diffusés qu’après la Saison 6. Les premiers  épisodes étaient disponibles alors à la demande. La septième saison quant à elle clos l’aventure des tortues, avec seulement treize épisodes, et un look complètement différent des personnages, pour coller à celui du nouveau film, sorti en 2007.
